Afghanistan’s victory over Pakistan propels them into ACL U19 final

SYDNEY: In a thrilling encounter at the ACL U19 2024, Afghanistan secured their spot in the final after a nail-biting victory over Pakistan by 8 runs in the second semifinal clash.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Pakistan aimed to take advantage of the weather conditions with rain affecting play. Despite an early setback with the dismissal of Dave Dubey on the very first ball of the match, Afghanistan’s batters displayed resilience, forging a formidable 100-run partnership.

Jack Smith led the charge with a stellar knock of 60 runs from just 39 balls, ably supported by Rayyan Naik’s contribution of 33 runs, embellished with four boundaries. Usman Khan was the standout bowler for Pakistan, claiming both wickets for 27 runs in his three-over spell.

In response, Pakistan got off to a strong start, with their openers laying a solid foundation with a 71-run partnership in just 6 overs. However, the momentum shifted dramatically when in-form batter Junaid Mir was run out on the first ball of the seventh over. Junaid Mir scored 43 and 35 runs for Rehaan Farooq. Despite efforts from the middle order, Pakistan fell short of the target, managing just 112 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

With this hard-fought victory, Afghanistan secured their place in the final, where they will face off against the Kangaroos in what promises to be an epic showdown. The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the tournament, as these two teams battle it out for ultimate glory
