Clinical Australia register clean sweep over Pakistan with a dominating win in SCG Test

MELBOURNE: In a dominating display of skill and resilience, Australia secured a comprehensive victory over Pakistan in the third and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, completing a whitewash in the series.

The match, marked by key moments and individual brilliance, showcased Australia’s supremacy on home soil. Pakistan, after winning the toss and opting to bat, faced early setbacks as Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and captain Pat Cummins quickly reduced them to 47/4. Despite a counter-attacking innings from Mohammad Rizwan (88) and contributions from Salman Agha, Cummins’ brilliance dismantled the lower order. Aamer Jamal‘s heroic effort, scoring a rapid 82, guided Pakistan to a total of 313.

Australia, in response, experienced a roller coaster innings. After a solid start, a collapse saw them lose 5 wickets for 10 runs, with Aamer Jamal claiming a remarkable 6-wicket haul. Usman Khawaja, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Mitchell Marsh contributed with fifties, but Jamal’s exceptional bowling limited Australia to 299.

In the second innings, Pakistan struggled once again, losing wickets in quick succession. Hazlewood’s triple wicket-maiden dealt a significant blow to the middle order. Despite brief resistance from Rizwan and Salman, Nathan Lyon’s crucial wicket turned the tide, and Pakistan were bowled out for a mere 115.

With a target of 130 runs, Australia’s openers faced early challenges as Khawaja was dismissed for a duck. However, David Warner and Labuschagne steered the hosts to victory, with Labuschagne remaining unbeaten on 62. Warner, in his final Test, departed after contributing a significant fifty, leaving a lasting memory for fans.

Jamal’s outstanding performances with both bat and ball earned him the Player of the Match award, while Cummins was recognized as the Player of the Series for his impactful leadership and consistent contributions with the red cherry.
