Zawar Farid’s all-round show steer Delhi Bulls Future Mattress to an exciting three-wicket win in the AVR PAY NEWS AJMAN T20 CUP

ABU DHABI: Delhi Bulls Future Mattress’ allrounder Zawar Farid’s show through a timely half century and two crucial wickets ensured them a three-wicket win in an intensely fought contest over Maratha Arabians – Brother Gas in the third match of the AVR PAY NEWS AJMAN T20 CUP powered By SKY EXCHANGE.NET at the Malek Stadium on Monday night.

Maratha Arabians – Brother Gas posted 141 in 19.4 overs through their skipper Jiju Janardhanan’s knock of 55, but his knock went in vain.

Through a thrilling chase, in which the match swung like a pendulum, Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress reached the target with five balls to spare mainly due to Zawar Farid’s knock of 56 and Mohammad Usman’s 45 runs.

Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress won the toss and elected to bowl. Maratha Arabians – Brother Gas skipper Jiju Janardhanan opening with Hamdan Tahir put on 43 runs in 4.6 overs. Then eighteen-year-old left-arm spinner Nilansh Keshwani ended this partnership by having Hamdan Tahir caught by Zawar Farid at long-on for 10.

Ansh Tandon joined Jiju Janardhanan who was in full flow and took the score t0 81 in 10.5 overs. Zawar Farid had Jiju Janardhanan caught and bowled after he had hit 55 runs off 44 balls with nine boundaries.

Next man Usman Khan lasted only four balls to score six runs before he got caught by Sardar Bahzad at short third man off Mohammad Azhar for 6. Mohamnmad Azhar also had Tandon caught by Zahid Ali at long off boundary for 9. Zawar Farid picked his second wicket by having Mohammad Afzal trapped leg before for 1. Maratha Arabians – Brother Gas thus slipped from 81 for 1 in 10 overs to 90 for 5 in 12.3 overs.

Vishnu Sukumaran made a valiant effort to lift his team out of trouble and hit 19 runs before he got caught by Mohammad Azhar at deep extra-cover off Zahid Ali. Wickets continued to fall when Saqhuib Manshad got caught by Zawar Farid and long-on off Umar Ali.

At his juncture, Omer Farooq, who kept the scoreboard moving through his 23 runs, too fell caught by Zahid Ali of Umair Ali. When Umair Ali had Matiullah Khan caught behind by wicketkeeper Abdul Shakoor for 2, he returned with figures of 3 for 20. Last man Mujahid Ameem fell caught by Waseem Bari off Qamar Awan for 4 when two more balls were remaining to complete the last over.

Chasing a target of 142 to win, Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress opener Abdul Shakoor fell for a duck pulling the second delivery of the second over from Matiullah Khan into the hands of Mohammad Afzal at mid-wicket. One-drop Wasim Bari got caught behind by wicketkeeper Hamdan Tahir off Saqib Manshad for 1.

Zawar Farid and Mohammad Usman then slowly but steadily swelled the total. Farid scored freely picking the gaps well and even hit two sixes. Usman played second fiddle providing support to Farid. At the half-way mark Delhi Bulls – Future Mattress were 68 for 2 needing another 74 runs in the last 60 deliveries.

Farid reached his half century in 41 balls. Usman began opening up by pulling Mujahid Ameen for a six. He pulled Mujahid again for another six in the 14th over and ensured his team reach the 100-run mark in 13.3 overs.

At the score on 105, Zafar lifted Saqib Manshad into the hands of Usman Khan at wide mid-on for 56 off 52 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. The pair had put on 97 runs for the third wicket.

At the score on 111, Omer Farooq trapped Mohammad Usman leg before for 45. His knock off 32 balls had two boundaries and three sixes. At the same score, Qamar Awan swung at Harry Bharwal and Mujahid Ameen took a running catch for 5. Bharwal thus produced a maiden-wicket over in the 17th over.

Umair Ali Khan hit the first delivery he faced from Omer Farooq for a straight six. When 10 more runs were needed Umair Ali hit Maitullah Khan into the hands of Saqib Manshid at deep mid-wicket for 12.

With the very next ball Maitullah Khan clean bowled Sardar Bhazad for 9. With the match poised as anyone’s game, Mohammad Azhar bravely hit Maitullah Khan’s hat-trick delivery for a six to make it four runs off the last over. In the end, Zahid Ali edged Omer Farooq for a boundary to win the match with five balls to spare.

Speaking about his all-round show, Zawar Farid, after bagging the Man of the Match award said: “It was a tough contest. After the fall of two quick wickets, I decided that I must stay on till the end. I got good support from Mohammad Usman, and that gave me the confidence to keep going. It was a well-fought win.”
