MELBOURNE: CommBank Junior Matildas Head Coach Mike Cooper has confirmed the 27-player squad set to take on Thailand during the inaugural ASEAN Women’s Football Week.
The CommBank Junior Matildas will face off against Thailand’s U16 Women’s National Team on 25 November at Wanderers Football Park in Sydney, before travelling to Gosford on 28 November to play a curtain raiser ahead of the CommBank Matildas’ match against New Zealand at polytec Stadium.
Head Coach, Mike Cooper said this series against Thailand presents a fantastic opportunity for younger players to experience international football.
“This series is about laying the groundwork for players’ long-term development. We’ve deliberately selected a squad with a strong contingent of under-15 and under-14 players to expose them to the demands and excitement of representing Australia at this level.
“As much as the football itself, this series is about helping them understand the standards required both on and off the pitch. It’s about learning how to prepare mentally and physically, how to carry themselves in a professional environment, and how to embrace the responsibilities that come with wearing the national team jersey.
“Competing during ASEAN-Australia Women’s Football Week and playing ahead of the CommBank Matildas adds a special layer of inspiration, and we’re confident this experience will be a formative step in their football journeys.”
