From Karachi to Darwin, Imran Muhammad’s journey toward ICC Umpiring dreams

DARWIN: Pakistani born cricket enthusiast Imran Muhammad has been making his mark in Australian cricket, steadily rising through the umpiring ranks.

Born in Pakistan, Imran’s love for cricket began at an early age, when he played club cricket and even featured in matches against former Pakistani allrounder Shahid Afridi in Karachi. After moving from Pakistan to Ireland and later settling in Darwin, Northern Territory, his passion for the sport never faded.

“I always loved playing cricket, but watching renowned umpire Aleem Dar on the field inspired me to pursue umpiring as a career,” Imran said.

Since then, Imran has taken charge as an umpire at various levels of the game. He has officiated in Big Bash League Women, Top End T20 Series 2024, and multiple domestic cricket tournaments across the Northern Territory. Currently, he is serving as an umpire in the Top End T20 Series 2025 in Darwin.

Imran is a Level II qualified umpire and is now pursuing Level III certification, with a clear ambition of one day joining the ICC panel of umpires.

“My aim is to represent at the international level as an ICC panel umpire. Step by step, I’m working hard to achieve that dream,” he said.

With dedication and a growing resume of high-profile matches, Imran Muhammad continues to bring passion, discipline, and professionalism to the cricket field proving that his journey from a Karachi cricket ground to Darwin’s international events is only just beginning.
