Former Pakistani cricketer appointed as Head Coach of Cricket Germany

LAHORE: The Deutsche Cricket Board (DCB) has appointed former Pakistani cricketer, Atiq-uz-Zaman, as the head coach of their men’s international team.

DCB welcomed Atiq-uz-Zaman as head coach of the men’s national team. The national team is in the middle of preparing for this summer’s ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Scotland. The first two places will be played there, which entitle you to take part directly in the T20 World Championship in 2024.

Currently completing his Level 4 qualification, Zaman also serves as a batting scout for the England and England Lions men’s national teams. His support of the England men’s team as a batting scout earned him another feather in his hat as the team won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022. He has extensive experience from previous stints with Lancashire CCC on the U11, U12, U13 and Women’s side who won a number of County Championships between 2016 and 2019.

Mr. atiq confirmed on twitter and said I am happy to share that I have signed as German National Men’s Head Coach. It’s a great challenge and I am looking forward to start my new journey with them.

As well as being an experienced coach on English soil, he has also served as Head of Fielding and Wicket Keeping Coach at the Pakistan Cricket Board’s High Performance Centre. In this capacity he has also gained experience with PSL team Lahore Qalandars and with the Pakistan women’s national team. Another highlight of Zaman’s career was his appointment as head coach of Pakistani Premier League club SSGC, where he coached the likes of Shoaib Malik, Babar Azam and Muhammad Amir.

Pakistani pacer Muhammad Amir, who is currently playing for Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League, congratulated him on twitter then Cricket Germany replied in Urdu شکریہ ہمیں خوشی ہوگی ان کے ساتھ کام کر کے

Also, Zaman is a former Pakistani Test and ODI cricketer who has also played county cricket and grade cricket in England and New Zealand respectively. His involvement as a coach and player in elite cricket will be an asset to our players and coaching staff and will enable us to further our current national and under-19 squads as well as the general talent development in German cricket.

Zaman is now ready to begin his mission of helping young athletes with the same mindset that has propelled him to the top of his game. His engagement will focus on the strategic planning, implementation and oversight of development programs as part of the elite high-performance process.
