LAHORE: As per the announcement and in compliance of the directive from World Athletics to celebrate and organize Kids Athletics Day, Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) organized an event of Kids Athletics Day on 7 June 2023 at Punjab University Lahore.
The event was a great success, with participation of over 200 kids from different schools. Muhammad Zafar, Secretary General AFP, was the chief guest. Other sports dignitaries, including Salman Iqbal Butt, President Punjab Athletics Association, Madam Shahida Khanum, President Pakistan Women Athletics Association, Madam Abida Tanveer, General Secretary Pakistan Women Athletics Association, and Tariq Mehmood Sidhu, President Technical Officials Association of AFP, also attended the event.
The key objectives and aims of celebrating and organizing Kids Athletics Day are as follows:
– To ensure a steady and sustainable policy of development of the sport of Athletics.
– To introduce children to Athletics at a basic level.
– To expand the sport of athletics for schools and all institutions who are interested in the well-being of children.
– To popularize athletics in the country and world.
– To raise awareness about the importance of fitness and encourage people to get more involved in sports and athletics.
The vision behind Kids Athletics is the belief that every child is born to move, to play, to explore. No matter where they are in the world, no matter their individual circumstances, it’s their fundamental right to have access to sport.
The Secretary General AFP appreciated Mr. Muhammad Nabeel, Assistant Director Sports Punjab University, and the management of Punjab University for their excellent arrangements.
Gifts, T-shirts, and certificates were distributed among the children, making the event a memorable experience for all. The Director Sports and senior management of Punjab University were also present at the event.
