LAHORE: University of Lahore beat University of Central Punjab by 28-0 in the final of HEC Intervarsity Rugby tournament and won the title.
According to information provided by Syed Mozzam Ali Shah PRU Representative, the HEC Intervarsity rugby sevens tournament was organized by UMT at Punjab university Rugby ground here in Lahore.
Universities from all over Punjab participated in this in which Superior University, FFCU, LGU, UVAS, GCU, LUMS, UOL, UMT, IUB and Punjab University teams are among the teams.
in this one day event in first match Superior university beat FFCU by24-5, in 2nd game LGU beat UVAS by 20-0, LUMS got by against GCU, UOL beat UMT by 22-7 and IUB beat superior by 21-0 and UCP beat LGU by 19-5, Punjab university beat LUMS by 38-0. After league games 4 best teams play semifinals.
In the first semifinal University of Lahore (UOL) beat Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) by 39-0 and in the 2nd semifinal University of Central Punjab (UCP) beat Punjab University (PU) by 29-5. Before the final 3rd and 4th position match played in which IUB beat PU by 20-0 and claimed 3rd position.
In the main final of the event witnessed by all university teams and a big number of Punjab university students because they are the host. Team University of Lahore dominated all match and beat University of Central Punjab by 38-5 and won the HEC Intervarsity Rugby Tournament.
In the concluding ceremony Development head of PRU Shakeel Amhed Malik distributed trophies and souvenirs to players. He said that PRU investment in grassroot level from the last 3 years is very fruitful. We see all Pakistan’s big universities play rugby. Students got Rugby scholarships and it is a great success for PRU and all rugby families.
He also thanked Pakistan Rugby Union President Arif Saeed and Chairmen Fawzi Khawaja who played a big role in promoting Rugby all over Pakistan.
